North Carolina E. coli Cases
NORTH CAROLINA SAM'S CLUB LAWSUIT INFORMATION: Food safety law firm Pritzker | Olsen, P.A. is currently representing victims of E. coli outbreaks linked to ground beef. We are also representing the family of a North Carolina woman who died after contracting E. coli. At least 10 people have E. coli infections associated with frozen hamburger patties purchased at Sam’s Club. 2 of the victims are children from North Carolina. To contact Pritzker | Olsen, P.A., please call toll-free at 1-888-377-8900 or submit the firm’s online consultation form.
According to a WRAL story, “The two children, a 10-year-old from Durham County and a 14-year-old from Orange County, attended a cookout on Sept. 15.” The two children were identified as part of the Sam’s Club hamburger outbreak by DNA fingerprinting:
The state Division of Public Health's laboratory has confirmed that the children were infected with E. coli O15:H7 bacterium that had the same DNA fingerprint as E. coli infections that have been linked to ground-beef patties manufactured by Cargill Meat Solutions Corp. and sold through Sam's Club. (WRAL)
Two of the Minnesota children who were sickened in this outbreak developed hemolytic uremic sydrome (HUS), the leading cause of kidney failure in children in the United States. Neither of the North Carolina children developed HUS.
In response to this outbreak, Cargill Meat Solutions recalled about 845,000 pounds of hamburgers that were distributed to Sam’s Club and other retailers, institutions and restaurants. This Cargill/ Sam’s Club hamburger recall is one of many in the last few months. Over 27 million pounds of ground beef / hamburgers have been recalled due to possible contamination with E. coli O157:H7.

NORTH CAROLINA CAPTAIN'S GALLEY RESTAURANT LAWSUIT INFORMATION: Pritzker | Olsen, a leading E. coli litigation law firm, is representing the family of a woman who died from an E. coli infection associated with Captain's Galley Restaurant in China Grove, North Carolina. Eight people have confirmed cases of E. coli linked to Captain's Galley Restaurant, and 7 others are awaiting tests. Health officials believe the source of the outbreak may be a goat that was slaughtered in the kitchen of the restaurant. The goat was slaughtered by some employees without the consent of restaurant management. Health officials are continuing their search for the source as they await test results.
Legally, it is not critical that the source of the Captain's Galley e. coli outbreak be found. Even if the food source of a outbreak is not determined, restaurants are 100% liable for E. coli infections linked to them. If the source of the outbreak is found to be the goat, it will be of little legal consequence for those sickened. Again, restaurants are 100% liable for E. coli infections linked to them, even if the source of the outbreak involved an activity for which owners and managers had not given consent.
The E. coli lawyers at Pritzker | Olsen, P.A. are tough negotiators and have extensive experience with E. coli cases. To contact an E. coli lawyer at Pritzker | Olsen, P.A., call toll-free at 1-888-377-8900 or submit the online consultation form for review by an E. coli lawyer at the firm.
