A terrible tragedy occurred on Highway 8, south of Oxford, near Calhoun City, Mississippi. A semi truck sideswiped a school bus transporting Ackerman High School students, then the semi collided head-on with a second school bus from Ackerman High School. Three adults were killed, including the semi truck driver.

More than 60 high school seniors were returning from a trip to the University of Mississippi where they participated in a career day event. Their buses were heading west on Highway 8 when they were hit by the semi. Many teens were taken to area hospitals. The Mississippi semi accident is still under investigation.
