Listeria Outbreak Linked to Raw Alfalfa Sprouts

We are investigating a nationwide Listeria outbreak linked to alfalfa sprouts.

The CDC, FDA and public health officials have determined that a multistate Listeria outbreak is linked to eating raw alfalfa sprouts.

Earlier this month (April 2009), the FDA announced a recall of alfalfa sprouts due to possible Listeria contamination. The recalled alfalfa sprouts were sold in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Delaware. The recall involves Amalgamated Produce, Inc’s. (API), Specialty Farms, Vermont Sprout House, Nature’s Promise and BroccoSprouts products.

Most reported cases of listeriosis (Listeria infection) involve pregnant woman and the elderly. In one of our cases, a pregnant woman miscarried twins. In another case, our client had severe brain damage. We have also handled Listeria cases involving the wrongful death of an elderly person.
