SUV Rear Ended by FedEx Semi Truck
Tragedy Struck Illinois Family

Tragedy struck a family from Chicago, Illinois as they were returning home from a wedding celebration in Florida. Their Nissan SUV was rear-ended by a FedEx semi truck. The impact caused the SUV to rollover. Three family members were ejected and died at the scene. The other four family members sustained injuries and were taken to area hospitals.

Both vehicles were heading north on a dark stretch of Interstate 65. The accident happened early in the morning, south of Elizabethtown, Kentucky.

Toxicology tests were performed, according to standard procedures. The investigation is ongoing.¹

Drive a commercial truck when impaired by fatigue or likely to become impaired by fatigue in violation of §392.3 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
Drive in a careless, unsafe manner
Operate a motor vehicle in a defective condition
Fail to yield the right-of-way
Fail to report an accident
