Safeway Beef Patties Recall Announcement

Valley Meat Beef Patties RecallAugust 5, 2010 - In cooperation with Valley Meat Company's recall of one million pounds of frozen ground beef patties that may be contaminated with E coli O157:H7, Safeway Inc. is voluntarily recalling the following Butcher's Cut frozen ground beef patties sold in Safeway, Vons, Pavilions and Pak 'N Save stores in California, Nevada and Hawaii:

-- Butcher's Cut 100% Ground Beef Patties 73% Lean/ 27% Fat. 2.5 pound, 10-count packages sold after January 13, 2010. (2,388 resealable packages)

-- Butcher's Cut 100% Ground Beef Patties 80% Lean/ 20% Fat. 2.5 pound, 10-count packages sold after January 12, 2010. (1,008 resealable packages)

-- Butcher's Cut 100% Ground Beef Patties 73% Lean/ 27% Fat. 128 ounce, 32-count boxes sold after January 12, 2010. (279 boxes)

The recalled products are stamped with a "Best Before" date of January 7, 2011. The "Best Before" date can be found near the zipper lock of the 10-count packages and on the side of the 32-count cases. Customers are asked to discard these products or return them to their local store for a full refund.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with Butcher's Cut products. However, illnesses have been reported in connection with other recalled ground beef produced by Valley Meat Company.

There is concern that some recalled Valley Meat Company beef products may still be frozen and in consumers’ freezers. If you have frozen ground beef patties in your freezer that are part of this Valley Meat beef recall, do not eat them.
