Ecoli Meningitis in Newborn Baby

Meningitis is an inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. E. coli meningitis is bacterial meningitis, which is more virulent than viral meningitis. E. coli is the main cause of meningitis in newborn babies. Most cases of E. coli meningitis occur in newborn babies or the elderly. The mortality rate for E. coli meningitis in neonates is a grim 40 to 80%. Many of those infants that do survive after this illness have neurological or developmental abnormalities.

E. coli meningitis signs to look for in newborns:

  • Fever
  • Failure to thrive
  • Jaundice
  • Decreased feedings/Lack of appetite
  • Periods of apnea
  • Listlessness/Lethargy
  • Irritability
  • Vomiting.

Fred Pritzker is one of the few lawyers in the United States with extensive experience with E. coli lawsuits, which can involve foodborne illness and/or medical malpractice (failure to diagnose, inadequate care, etc.).  He has over 30 years of experience and has recovered millions for injury victims.
