Illinois E. coli Outbreak Associated with Ground Beef
Pritzker Olsen Attorneys, a national food safety law firm is investigating an Illinois E. coli outbreak associated with consumption of Valley Meats LLC ground beef products. People in Ohio and Pennsylvania have also been sickened. Children have developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) from the E. coli infections.

E. coli Outbreak Lawsuit: Victim Compensation

E. coli Outbreak Wrongful Death Lawsuit
The Illinois Wrongful Death Act (740 ILCS 180/) provides families recourse if a family member is killed due to negligence or intent. According to 740 ILCS 180/2, "In every such action the jury may give such damages as they shall deem a fair and just compensation with reference to the pecuniary injuries resulting from such death, including damages for grief, sorrow, and mental suffering, to the surviving spouse and next of kin of such deceased person."

In order to prove an E. coli case, the following three elements must be proved:
- The food product was contaminated with E. coli bacteria (usually E. coli O157:H7)
- The E. coli contamination caused illness and
- The person suffered damage as a result of the E. coli contamination.
