E. coli Outbreaks

Iowa E. coli: Apple Cider
Six people have confirmed cases of E. coli O157:H7 that may be associated with apple cider. Two children have developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) and are on dialysis. Iowa health officials have not disclosed what they believe is the source of the outbreak.

Colorado E. coli
A Colorado E. coli outbreak has been associated with Jimmy John's. The outbreak began at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where students and others were sickened. Read about the Univeristy of Colorado (UC) E. coli outbreak.

Michigan E. coli: Lettuce
The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) has associated 26 cases of E. coli O157:H7 with bagged, industrial-sized packages of iceberg lettuce sold through wholesale venues (Aunt Mid's lawsuit) to restaurants and institutions (University of Michigan and MSU E. coli lawsuit).

Idaho E. coli
An E. coli outbreak at Little Leggs Daycare in Idaho has led to eight confirmed cases of E. coli O157:H7.

Vermont E. coli
On October 10, 2008, the Vermont Department of Health warned consumers not to eat undercooked meat because it has identified 8 cases of E. coli O157:H7 in Vermont.

California E. coli
A California E. coli outbreak has sickened attendees of the BBQ Benefit in Forest Ranch, California. Health officials have determined that contaminated beef tri-tip was the source of the outbreak.

MSU E. coli
At least 10 Michigan State University students have contracted E. coli O157:H7 infections.

South Dakota Boy in Hospital with HUS
A four-year-old from Brandon, South Dakota is in a Minneapolis Hospitalwith hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), probably from an E. coli O157:H7 infection.  South Dakota health officials are investigating this illness along with others that may be part of an E. coli O157:H7 outbreak.

Oklahoma E. coli
An Oklahoma E. coli outbreak may have sickened over 300 people. One person has died (E. coli wrongful death). The Oklahoma State Department of Health has reported that a majority of the people sickened ate at the Country Cottage, a Locust Grove restaurant. Read Country Cottage lawsuit information.

Multi-State Outbreak Linked to Nebraska Beef
State and federal health officials have linked 31 confirmed cases of E. coli O157:H7 to Nebraska Beef, Ltd. products sold under the Coleman brand. People in 12 states were sickened: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia. The recalled Coleman products were sold by grocery stores, including but not limited to Whole Foods Market.

Massachusetts E. coli Outbreak
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has confirmed 7 cases of E. coli O157:H7. Health officials have associated recalled Nebraska Beef, Ltd. ground beef sold under the Coleman brand by Whole Foods Market with this outbreak. Virginia E. coli Outbreak at Goshen Scout Reservation
The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is investigating an outbreak of E. coli O157 infection among recent attendees of a Boy Scout reservation located in Goshen, Virginia, Goshen Scout Reservation.

E. coli - Multistate Outbreak Linked to Kroger Ground Beef and Nebraska Beef, Ltd. Ground Beef Components
There are now 49 confirmed cases in an E. coli outbreak in Michigan (Michigan E. coli), Ohio (Ohio E. coli), Georgia (Georgia E. coli), Indiana, Kentucky, New York and Utah linked to Kroger ground beef and Nebraska ground beef components. E. coli - Washington E. coli Outbreak Associated with Lettuce
9 people from Thurston and Pierce Counties have lab-confirmed cases of E. coli O157:H7 that may be linked to bagged lettuce. Federal, state and local health officials are investigating this outbreak. Minnesota Preschool E. coli Outbreak
An E. coli outbreak at Wonder World Preschool in the town of Slayton, Minnesota has led to eight confirmed cases of E. coli O157:H7. One child has been hospitalized and is showing signs of hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). Read about the Minnesota E. coli outbreak linked to Wonder World Preschool.

E. coli - Washington E. coli Outbreak Associated with Lettuce

Nebraska E. coli Outbreak Associated with Roast Beef
Nebraska E. coli outbreak associated with roast beef has sickened at least 14 people. Epidemiological evidence indicates that those sickened ate the roast beef at a private event at a Sarpy County reception hall on March 26, 2008. Rochester Meat Recall - California and Wisconsin E. coli Outbreak
Rochester Meat Company has recalled about 188,000 pounds of ground beef due to possible contamination with E. coli O157:H7. At least 6 people have contracted E. coli O157:H7 infections associated with eating Rochester Meat Company ground beef served in restaurants and food service institutions in Wisconsin and California. Jeno's and Totino's Pizza Recall
General Mills has recalled about 414,000 cases of Jeno's and Totino's Pizza because pepperoni on the pizzas may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. Learn more about the Jeno's and Totino's Pizza recall.

E. coli Outbread Linked to Sam's Club Hamburgers
Health officials in several states are investigating cases of E. coli O157:H7 infection associated with eating Cargill hamburger patties purchased from Sam’s Club stores in August and September.  5 people from Minnesota, 4 people from Wisconsin, 2 children from North Carolina, and 3 children from Tennessee have laboratory-confirmed cases of E. coli O157:H7 associated with the Cargill / Sam's Club hamburgers.  Read about the Cargill hamburger recall.  Another recent recall of hamburger patties sold at Sam's Club is associated with a separate E. coli O157:H7 outbreak.  Read about the Topps and Sam's Choice hamburger recall.

Indiana: Galena Elementary School E.coli
There are now 7 confirmed cases and 6 probable cases of E. coli in Floyd County, Indiana.  Most of the people sickened  are elementary students who attend Galena Elementary School in Floyds Knobs, Indiana.  Read more about the Galena Elementary School E. coli outbreak.

E. coli: Topps Hamburgers

Rancherito E. coli Cases
Pritzker | Ruohonen is investigating what appears to be an E. coli outbreak associated with El Rancherito restaurant in Effingham, Illinois.  Six people have confirmed cases of E. coli O157 after eating at El Rancherito.  All of them were hospitalized.  Learn more about the E. coli cases and a possible El Rancherito lawsuit.

E. coli: Piggly Wiggly Ground Beef Recall
Certain Piggly Wiggly ground beef may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.  Two people contracted confirmed cases of E. coli O157:H7 after eating ground beef purchased at Piggly Wiggly stores in Monroe and Sister Bay, Wisconsin.  Learn more about the Piggly Wiggly ground beef E. coli recall.

E. coli: Stew Leonard's Ground Beef in Yonkers, New York
The Stew Leonard’s store in Yonkers, New York, has recalled 96% lean ground round because three people from one family have contracted E. coli O157:H7 infections associated with consuming ground beef sold at the store.  Read the press release regarding the Stew Leonard's ground beef recall and E. coli lawsuit information.

Oregon and Washington E. coli: Ground Beef Sold at Safeway, QFC, and Fred Meyer
Pritzker | Ruohonen is monitoring the an E. coli outbreak linked to ground beef that is associated with 8 confirmed cases of E. coli O157:H7.  The ground beef was sold at Safeway, QFC, and Fred Meyer stores in Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and Idaho under the "Northwest Finest" brand name.  Read about the "Northwest Finest" ground beef USDA-FSIS public health alert and the Oregon and Washington E. coli outbreak.

E. coli Cases in Suffolk County
Health officials have identified 7 cases of E. coli in Suffolk County, New York, that may be associated with undercooked ground beef.  All of the ill individuals in Suffolk reported consuming ground beef products during the period of June 9th through July 3rd.  Learn more about the New York E. coli cases.

Jefferson County Jail E. coli Outbreak
About 70 inmates at the Jefferson County Jail in Golden, Colorado, have been sickened by E. coli.  Jefferson County health officials are interviewing sickened inmates, testing samples of food and water, and reviewing food-handling procedures in an effort to find the source of the E. coli outbreak.  Learn more about the Jefferson County Jail E. coli outbreak.

E. coli Outbreak Linked to Little Rosie's Taqueria
Pritzker | Ruohonen, a leading E. coli litigation law firm, is investigating an Alabama E. coli outbreak linked to shredded lettuce served at Little Rosie’s Taqueria, a Huntsville restaurant.  At least 17 people have been sickened.  Three have developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) and are undergoing dialysis due to kidney failure.  Learn more about the E. coli outbreak linked to Little Rosie's Taqueria.

Colorado Albertsons Stores - Ground Beef Recall
Pritzker Ruohonen is currently investigating the E. coli outbreak associated with ground beef sold at Colorado Albertsons grocery stores.  This is part of a multi-state recall of ground beef issued by United Food Group LLC.  At least 2 people in Colorado have contracted E. coli O157:H7 infections in this outbreak.  Learn about a possible Albertsons lawsuit

North Carolina E. coli - Lawyer for Possible Captain's Galley Restaurant Lawsuit

Arizona E. coli Outbreak Linked to Ground Beef

California E. coli Outbreak Linked to The Grill at Meat Market
Pritzker | Ruohonen is investigating an E. coli outbreak in the Fresno, California area that has been linked to tri-tip (beef ) from The Grill at Meat Market by the Fresno County Department of Community Health.  People who attended three parties in the Fresno area were sickened in this outbreak.  All three events were catered by Meat Market.  Learn about the E. coli outbreak and a possible Meat Market lawsuit.

E. coli: Lunds and Byerly's Ground Beef Recall and Outbreak

California E. coli Outbreak
May 14, 2007 - Health officials are still looking for the source of the Bakersfield, California, E. coli outbreak that has sickened 12 people, 11 of them children.  Four of the children have been hospitalized with complications of E. coli O157:H7 infections, including hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), the leading cause of kidney failure in children in the United States.  Read more about the California E. coli outbreak.

Possible E. coli Outbreak Linked to Hamburgers
Pritzker | Ruohonen is monitoring the possible E. coli outbreak linked to hamburgers served at the St. Helena and Calistoga Little League baseball snack shacks. E. coli Outbreak Linked to Hoss's Steak and Sea Restaurants and Recalled Beef
Pritzker | Ruohonen is monitoring the possible E. coli outbreak linked to Hoss's Steak and Sea Restaurants in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.  Steaks, ground beef patties, and other cuts of meat used at Hoss's Steak and Sea Restaurants were recalled due to possible contamination with E. coli O157:H7.  Several people may have contracted E. coli infections after eating at these restaurants.  Learn more about a possible Hoss's Steak E. coli lawsuit

Souplantation E. coli Outbreak
California health officials have stated that seven people who ate at Souplantation in southern Orange County have contracted E. coli infections.  Three of them were hospitalized.  Six of the E. coli victims dined at Souplantation on March 23 or 24.
