TTP-HUS Information for You and Your Family
Although thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) and hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) are separate conditions, they can develop simultaneously in a patient with an E. coli O157:H7 infection, the most common cause of HUS.
With TTP-HUS, fibrin-coated platelets create blood clots (thombi) in the microvascular system. Red blood cells are shredded by the fibrin. The result is a severe reduction of red blood cells and platelets.
TTP-HUS Complications
Our lawyers have represented people sickened with TTP-HUS and the families of TTP-HUS victims who did not survive.
If you or a family member has TTP-HUS, you may have a claim for medical bills, pain and suffering, emotional distress and other damages against a food manufacturer, restaurant or other party. Our lawyers have handled these cases and are aware of the possible life-long complications of TTP-HUS. We have medical experts available to provide an estimate of future medical expenses and pain and suffering. These amounts should be part of any settlement agreement with responsible parties.
Complications of TTP-HUS include the following:
- Stroke
- Blindness
- Seizures
- Coma
- Kidney failure (renal failure)
- Hypertension
- Neurological deficits (can be permanent)
- Diabetes mellitus
- Cardiomyopathy
- Death
