E coli O145 HUS at Roy C. Ketcham (RCK) High School,
John Jay High School, Wappingers Junior High School and Van Wyck Middle School
Our law firm is representing an E. coli-HUS victim who was sickened by Freshway Foods romain lettuce. Read about the E. coli O145 HUS lawsuit.
Students at four Wappingers Central School District schools have contracted E. coli O145 infections after consuming romain lettuce in the school cafeterias. The lettuce was supplied to the New York school district by Freshway Foods of Sidney, Ohio.
Two students in the Wappingers developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). One other person in New York developed E. coli HUS in this outbreak, our client, a student at Daemen College in Amherst, NY. The four schools involved in the outbreak are Roy C. Ketcham High School, John Jay High School, Wappingers Junior High School and Van Wyck Middle School.
Early in the outbreak investigation, the Wappingers Central School District sent unopened bags of Freshway Foods romaine lettuce to the New York Department of Health. The lettuce tested positive for the outbreak strain of E. coli O145, a fairly rare strain of E. coli bacteria.
The E. coli O145 found in the unopened bag of lettuce is the "smoking gun" of the investigation, providing solid evidence that the E. coli poisoning and HUS cases are linked to consumption of Freshway Foods lettuce. Legally, this means that students who were sickened have claims against Freshway Foods, the grower of the lettuce and others for medical expenses, pain and suffering and other damages.
Pritzker Olsen attorneys represent E. coli and HUS victims nationwide. They have won millions of dollars for their clients. They have been interviewed and quoted by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Lawyers USA and others.
