E. coli Outbreak Linked to Fresh Spinach: Lawyer and Attorney
Fresh spinach has been linked to a national E. coli O157:H7 outbreak that has sickened almost 100 people in 19 states, including Connecticut, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Utah and Wisconsin. One person in Wisconsin has died and at least 14 people have developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a serious kidney disease that is the leading cause of kidney failure in children in the United States. Hemoliytic uremic syndrome has a 3%-5% mortality rate. Most patients who develop HUS require dialysis, about one-fourth have seizures and some develop diabetes mellitus. About 50% of patients require dialysis due to kidney failure, 25% experience seizures, and 5% suffer from diabetes mellitus.
The FDA issued a warning that consumers should not eat packaged fresh spinach. Natural Selection Foods has recalled fresh spinach sold under several brands. Learn about the brands involved in the E. coli lawsuit linked to spinach. A lawsuit has been filed against Dole on behalf of an Oregon woman. Dole was also implicated in the E. coli O157:H7 outbreak in 2005 involving fresh, bagged lettuce. Pritzker | Ruohonen was the first to file a lawsuit against Dole on behalf of a victim of that outbreak.
