Attorney David Szerlag
Attorney David Szerlag focuses primarily in the areas of product liability, food poisoning, burn injuries, explosions, medical negligence and catastrophic injuries. His experience extends into admiralty, general liability and civil litigation. He brings to Pritzker Olsen extensive trial experience in both state and federal courts.
David is a former fire fighter with training in advanced life support and hazardous material. His certifications include Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) and National Propane Gas Association (NPGA). He is also certified as a 29 CFR 1910.120(q) Hazardous Materials Technician (ProBoard).
Between 1996 and 2005, David presented at the Annual Educational Seminars for Northland Insurance Co., Orion Insurance Co., Patrons Group, and GMAC. In 2003 he was a guest speaker for the Rhode Island Bar Association meeting, “Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Law.”
In 1990 David graduated cum laude from Suffolk University School of Law in Boston, MA., earning his Juris Doctorate.
David is a member of the Minnesota, Massachusetts and Rhode Island Bar Associations, Superior Bench Bar Committee, Medical Legal Committee, the American Association for Jusice, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI).
David served as a National Chairman on Roger William’s University Alumni appeal committee. He is a member of the Continuing Education Advisory Board. He also took time to work with the Coventry Basketball Association, as well as the local Food Bank.
Before joining Pritzker Olsen, David practiced law at Foley & Mansfield. Before that, he was a senior partner of the Rhode Island law firm Baluch, Gianfrancesco, Mathieu & Szerlag.

Attorney David Szerlag recently won over $20,000,000 for our clients who were injured by an over-the-counter medical product. He was appointed to the Plaintiff’s Executive Committee and as Chairman of the Plaintiff’s Steering Committee for the multidistrict litigation (MDL) involving this product. We cannot name the product here due to a confidentiality agreement.
David is lead attorney for our cases involving SimplyThick and necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in premature infants. SimplyThick is manufactured by Simply Thick LLC. He and our product liability litigation team are representing families in both personal injury and wrongful death cases.
David was quoted in the October, 2011 edition of Lawyers USA in an article discussing cases of blindness resulting from an off-label use of Avastin and lawsuits against Genentech, the maker of Avastin, and the Veteran’s Administration, "Off-label Avastin use is linked to blindness," by Sylvia Hsieh.

David is representing the families of three people who died in a house fire. He and his team are investigating whether the fire was caused by a defective appliance. David is a former fire fighter.
