Graco Ignores 4 Baby Deaths, Continues to Sell Strollers and Only Recalls Them after They are Most Likely No Longer in Use
On October 20, 2010, Graco Children's Products Inc., of Atlanta, Georgia, recalled about 2 million strollers that they quit selling in 2007. The recall announcement stated that four (4) babies had died in the strollers between 2003 and 2005.
Short list of problems we have with this:
- Graco kept selling the strollers knowing babies could be strangled in them from 2003 to 2007.
- Graco did not bother to recall these products until 2010, three years after the company stopped selling the strollers.
- This recall will cost the company almost nothing because most of these strollers are probably in a garbage heaps in junk yards throughout the United States.
- The Consumer Product Safety Commission (we think this may be a misnomer) did nothing to warn parents prior to the 2010 recall.
- As stated in several pages on this website, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) does not have the authority to recall products and this has got to change.
We have helped parents get products off of the market, and we are thankful when we can do that. The problem is that by the time we are contacted by parents who have lost a child, many other children may have died and nothing was done.
