Campylobacter Contamination Found in Raw Milk
5 Reports of Campylobacter Infection (Campylobacteriosis) May be Related to Consuming Raw Milk from Saratogam, New York Farm
On January 29, 2010, the New York State Department of Health and the State Department of Agriculture and Markets today warned consumers in Saratoga County and surrounding areas NOT to consume "unpasteurized" raw milk produced at Willow Marsh Farm located at 343 Hop City Road in Ballston Spa due to possible Campylobacter contamination.
The state Health Department received 5 reports of Campylobacter enteritis, from people who have also consumed raw unpasteurized milk purchased from Willow Marsh Farm.
Campylobacter is a bacterial infection that can cause diarrhea, fever, abdominal pain, nausea, headache, and muscle pain. The illness usually occurs two to five days after ingestion and generally lasts for seven to ten days. A Campylobacter infection (campylobacteriosis) can cause serious illness, including Guillain-Barre syndrome, and death. If you are experiencing any of the symptoms of campylobacteriosis after consuming Willow Marsh Farm raw milk, you should seek medical attention immediately. While there, it is important for the doctor to take a stool sample and have it tested for Campylobacter. Contact our law firm for more information.
If you have milk from Willow Marsh Farm, do not drink it. If someone has consumed the milk, wait to throw it out until you are sure no one has been sickened. Leftover milk may be valuable evidence in a Willow Marsh Farm lawsuit. The incubation period for Campylobacter is 1 to 10 days, meaning if someone is going to get sick from the raw milk, it may take 10 days for the symptoms of campylobacteriosis to manifest.
Preliminary tests concluded today at the New York State Food Laboratory found that raw unpasteurized milk produced at Willow Marsh Farm and collected on January 25 may be contaminated with Campylobacter. Raw milk does not provide the protection of pasteurization, which eliminates all pathogenic bacteria, including Campylobacter.
Campylobacter Lawsuit: Proving Your Case
Our law firm has represented victims of most major foodborne outbreaks in the United States. Our years of experience have given us an understanding of the following:
- How to use the evidence available to prove your Campylobacter case. We contact federal and state health departments and the CDC to obtain the epidemiological and microbiological testing that was part of the outbreak. We then do our own investigation.
- How to put together a settlement demand based on your story—your occupation, hobbies, family life, and how the Campylobacter infection and all of its complications have affected your life.
- How to fight for the best possible compensation package for you. If we can't settle the case for what we think your case is worth (and we have the experience to know), then we put the case in suit, which means serving court papers on the parties responsible for your illness.
- How to present your case before a jury. Campylobacter lawsuits can be complicated and emotional, particularly when the source was raw milk. We use highly-qualified and respected expert witnesses, detailed graphics describing what happened to your body when the Campylobacter infection sickened you, and evidence of how the Campylobacter has affected your life to argue our case. We prepare every case for trial because we have found that the best way to obtain the best recovery for our clients is to prepare the cases with all of the precision and skill that we have, so the responsible parties understand we are serious about the case and willing to take it to trial.
It sounds like a lot of work, and it is. You should know that you will not have to give us any money up front, and we are not paid unless you win.
