Treatment

Information on Campylobacter Treatment

Most cases of Campylobacteriosis do not require treatment. The illness usually runs its course for about a week and then dissipates, leaving the infected individual fully recovered.

Campylobacter can cause diarrhea and severe dehydration. If you or someone in your family has a Campylobacter infection, make sure the infected individual drinks lots of fluids.

In some cases of Campylobacter infection, antibiotics are sometimes used as a Campylobacter treatment, and can limit the length of illness. Erythromycin is the antibiotic most commonly used Campylobacter treatment.

In cases with severe complications, hospitalization may be necessary for adequate Campylobacter treatment.
