Texas Pipeline Explosion
A natural gas pipeline explosion on November 5, 2009 in Bushland, Texas resulted in three people hospitalized with burn injuries. The blast destroyed one house and damaged several others before the pipeline’s gas was shut off and firefighters contained the flames. Read about the Texas pipeline explosion.
Sears Kenmore Wall Oven Recall
CPSC has announced a Sears Kenmore oven recall due to the risk of fire and burn injury.
The Sears Kenmore ovens were recalled because, during extended broiling, gas can build in the oven cavity and escape when the oven door is opened. This poses a burn and possible fire hazard to consumers. Read more about the the Sears Kenmore oven recall.
Gas Fireplace Explosion
CPSC has announced a recall of certain American Flame gas valves due to the risk of gas fireplace explosion. Gas can continue to flow into the fireplace pilot light area after the switch has been turned “off,” posing a fire or explosion hazard to consumers. Duplex Fire in Menomonie, Wisconsin, Kills 3 Students
On April 5, 2008, three UW-Stout students died of smoke inhalation due to a fire in a rental house. The fire was reported around 3:30 in the morning in a duplex on 8th Street East in Menomonie, Wisconsin. Initial findings indicate that the three students died from smoke inhalation. Delta Bathtub and Shower Head Valves
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall of about 105,000 Delta bathtub and shower head valves which may cause scald injuries. Black & Decker® Coffeemaker Recall
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a voluntary recall of about 420,000 Black & Decker® Brand Thermal Coffeemakers. The coffeemaker may not turn off as programmed, causing the unit to overheat and melt, and posing a risk of fire and burn injury. Nexgrill Gas Grill Recall
The U.S. Consumer Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall of about 16,000 Nexgrill gas grills manufactured by Nexgrill Industries Inc., of City of Industry, California. According to the CPSC announcement, Nexgrill has received 31 incident reports, including 28 fires, three hoses melting, two cases of property damage, and four injuries. Tyco Smoke Detector Recall and Tyco Fire Detection System Recall
Tyco Fire and Security of Boca Raton, Florida, in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), initiated a smoke detector recall involving about 128,000 units and a fire detection system recall involving about 21,000 units. Fire Aboard Princess Cruise's Star Princess
A cruise on Princess Cruise’s Star Princess ended when fire raged through part of the ship. 11 people were injured, 2 of whom were hospitalized with injuries from smoke inhalation. One passenger died. According to Princess Cruises the Georgia man died of cardiac arrest. Read more.
Turbo Sport Portable Gas Grill
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Barbeques Galore Inc., of Lake Forest, California, announced the recall of about 1,800 Turbo Sport Portable Infrared LP Gas Grills. The grills have faulty regulators that can release too much gas to the burner causing an excessive burner flame. This also poses a risk of gas leaks, fires and explosions if an ignition source is present. There have been 18 reports of excessive flame or the regulator shutting off. Oscillating Heaters Sold at Wal-Mart
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), King of Fans Inc., of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is voluntarily recalling about 75,000 Maxi-Heat™ Dream Tower Heaters. The wires inside the oscillating heater can short circuit and spark, posing a fire hazard to consumers. This product has allegedly caused one house fire. Recall of Vaporizers and Aromatherapy Diffusers
The CPSC is recalling Vapor-Eze Waterless Vaporizers and Vapor-Eze Aromatherapy Diffusers. 6 fires have been reported. One young child has been hospitalized for burn injuries on the face and hands. Read information on fire and burn injuries.
