Caramia Crib Recall

About 1000 Caramia "Diane" cribs have been recalled because the slats on the cribs drop-side can detach from the top and bottom rails, posing fall and entrapment hazards to an infant or young child. The recalled cribs were manufactured in Slovenia and distributed by Caramia Furniture and Mother Hubbard Cupboard's of Ontario, Canada.

The recalled Caramia "Diana" cribs were manufactured between September 2002 and June 2004. A label affixed to the inside of the headboard or footboard lists the manufacturing dates. The recalled cribs were sold at Buy Buy Baby and juvenile product and mass merchandise stores nationwide from September 2002 through December 2005 for between $240 and $370.

Caramia has received 18 reports of slats detaching from the rails of the crib. No injuries have been reported.

Amby Baby Bed Recall Due to Suffication Wrongful Death

Two babies are dead because some manufacturer thought it was a good idea to have a baby motion bed that is essentially a hammock that rocks the baby. With all of the crib recalls in the last 30 years and all of the infant deaths, it seems that manufacturers would finally 1) test all baby products extremely well before putting them on the market and 2) not sell baby beds/cribs/hammocks that have any movable parts, not any.

With this Amby Baby Motion Bed, "The side-to-side shifting or tilting of the hammock can cause the infant to roll and become entrapped or wedged against the hammock’s fabric and/or mattress pad, resulting in a suffocation hazard" (from the U.S. Consumer Product SafetyCommission (CPSC) Amby Baby Motion Bed recall announcement).

Here are the Amby Baby Bed recall specifics from the recall announcement:
  • 24,000 Amby Baby Motion Beds recalled on December 8, 2009.
  • The manufacturer of the Amby Baby Motion Beds is Amby Baby USA of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
  • The Amby Baby Motion Bed consists of a steel frame and a fabric hammock which are connected by a large spring and metal crossbar. There is only one model of the hammock available which can be identified by a label sewn onto the hammock stating: “Amby – Babies Love It, Naturally.”
  • The recalled Amby Baby Motion Beds were sold at Ambybaby.com and other Internet retailers from January 2003 through October 2009 for about $250.
  • Amby Baby is aware of two infant suffocation deaths in the Amby Baby hammock. In June 2009, a 4-month-old girl in Lawrenceville, Ga died in a baby hammock and in August 2009, a 5-month-old boy from Gresham, Ore.
Why did it take Amby Baby USA 6 months after the first baby death to finally recall this product? Why is Congress dragging its feet about giving the CPSC the authority to pull products off the market that are killing babies?

Our product liability lawyers fight for compensation for injured children and the families of children who have been killed by dangerous and defective products. We also advocate for product safety. On November 12, 2009, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of about 13,000 Gander Mountain Treestands, specifically, Gander Mountain Hang-On Fixed Position Treestands.

The Gander Mountain tree stand recall is due to the risk of the clasp unexpectedly opening if the strap is fastened incorrectly, causing the treestand and user to fall to the ground.

Gander Mountain has received two reports of consumers falling while using the treestands: one sustained unspecified injuries and a second person sustained a broken pelvis and broken arm.

If you have sustained injuries when using a recalled Gander Mountain tree stand, you may have a claim against Gander Mountain Company of St. Paul, Minnesota, and StrongBuilt, of Waterproof, Louisiana, manufacturer of the recalled Gander Mountain treestands.

Compensation for a fall injury may include amounts for medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, emotional distress, disability, disfigurement and other damages.
