Recall of Toy Vehicles and Toy Pliers Due to Choking Hazard

March 30, 2006—The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has recently recalled 2 toys: 1) Primary Sounds Toy Vehicles and 2) "Busy Baby Activity Tool Pliers" sold at RadioShack. These products were recalled after small parts from the toys became detached in the hands or mouths of children. CPSC Recall: Primary Sounds Toy Vehicles
The CPSC recalled about 3,500 units of Primary Sounds Toy Vehicles. Prior to the recall, Kids Preferred LLC, the importer/distributor of the toy, received one report of a wheel and hubcap detaching from the toy while a child was playing with it. The recalled toys are soft, stuffed yellow taxis, black and white police cars and red fire engines, each with four plastic wheels. They measure about 6 inches in length and 5 inches in width. The toys have a silver-colored button on top that makes sounds when pushed. The police car and the fire engine make a siren sound. The taxi makes engine and horn sounds. “Kids Preferred” is printed on an attached fabric tag. These toys were sold at Kohl’s Department Stores and specialty retailers nationwide from September 2005 through January 2006 for about $12.

CPSC Recall: RadioShack Toy Pliers
The recalled toy pliers sold at RadioShack are "Busy Baby Activity Tool Pliers." About 25,000 units are involved in the recall. Before the recall, RadioShack received three reports of the sliding yellow knob on these toys detaching. In two of these reports, children were found to be mouthing these knobs. The recalled “Busy Baby Activity Tool Pliers” are about 6-inches long. The plastic toy has an orange handle, a red center knob and a yellow sliding knob on the side. The red center knob has “child GUIDANCE” written on it. The battery-operated toy makes various electronic sounds, plays music and has flashing lights. The pliers also contain multicolored beads. A label on the back reads, “RadioShack.” These toy pliers were sold at RadioShack stores nationwide and the RadioShack Web site from August 2004 through February 2006 for about $6.

  •  5 pacifiers (345,500 units)
  • 1 rattle (3000 units)
  • 13 toys (725,997 units)
