Turnpike Crash Involving Semi Truck:
Attorney for Investigation and Lawsuit

Pritzker Olsen law firm represents people who have been rear ended by a semi-trailer or other commercial truck. Our lawyers recently won a $2, 560,000 settlement for a couple whose car was rear ended by a semi truck. This case was a complex case because the trucking company claimed our client was driving negligently and was at fault.

We conducted an in-depth investigation of the accident, including hiring an accident reconstruction expert to produce a video showing what the evidence proved—that the semi driver was at fault. Contact an attorney for a free consultation or call 1-888-377-8900 (toll free).

Turnpike Crash — The driver of a Ford Focus was killed on the Ohio Turnpike near mile marker 190.5 when her car was rear ended by a semi tractor trailer hauling three box trailers near Shalersville Township. It triggered an eight-car pile-up involving 3 semi trucks and 5 personal vehicles.

The driver of the car was driving east with her two sons, 16 and 12, when the crash occurred. She was trapped in her car and died at the scene. Both sons were flown to Akron Children's Hospital by medical helicopters, where the youngest son is in critical condition and the older boy is in stable condition.

The semi truck hit another semi and 2 more passenger cars before hitting a concrete barrier and bursting into flames. The Ohio Turnpike was closed in both directions for more than 2 hours. Troopers continue to investigate the crash. No charges have been filed.

PritzkerOlsen Will Investigate
Turnpike Crashes Involving Semi Trucks

We start an independent investigation into your accident as soon as you retain one of our lawyers to represent you. Here are a few of the questions that need to be answered:

  • Did excessive speed play a role in the accident?
  • Was the accident related to a distracted driver? Distractions can include eating, drinking, texting, talking on a cellphone, looking at the scenery or reading a book. If there were no skid marks, the driver may have been distracted.
  • Were alcohol or drugs involved?
  • Had the trucker been on the road for too long? Was he tired? If there were no skid marks, the driver may have been too drowsy to respond appropriately to the situation.
  • Did the driver make an attempt to stop (were there skid marks)?
  • Did the trucker have a clean driving record?
  • Did the weather or road conditions contribute to the rear end accident?
  • Was the maintenance on the truck current?
  • Was the trucker pulling too much weight? Was he pulling too many trailers to be safe?
  • Did defective brakes on the semi or another defective semi truck part cause the accident?

What if a Brake Failure
Led to the Turnpike Semi Crash?

We will investigate to see if there is any evidence that a brake failure caused the semi-trailer or other commercial truck to rear end your car, van, pickup truck, motorcycle or bicycle. If the brakes failed, you may have a product liability claim for money damages against one or more of the following:

  • The maintenance company that worked on the brakes
  • The manufacturer of the brakes
  • The manufacturer of the commercial truck

Claims against any of these companies could be in addition to the claims against the truck driver and trucking company.  If the driver or the trucking company had prior knowledge of the brake problem, the trucking company will still be liable because they would have been negligent not to have gotten the brakes repaired.
