Mrs. Gerry’s Kitchen, Inc. Recalls Salads Due to Food Poisoning Risk
Note: Because there was not a specific foodborn pathogen mentioned in the recall, this Mrs. Gerry's salad recall is listed under "Food Poisoning Outbreaks." There is a wealth of information on this site regarding food poisoning and specific bacterial-based foodborne pathogens, including Campylobacter, E. coli, Listeria, Salmonella, and Shigella.
On May 22, 2006, Mrs. Gerry's Kitchen, Inc. of Albert Lea, Minnesota, voluntarily recalled approximately 54,000 pounds of salads because they have the potential to be contaminated with harmful bacteria. Bacterial foodborne pathogens include Campylobacter, E. coli, Listeria, Salmonella, and Shigella. Because foodborne pathogens cannot be detected visually or by smell, the recalled Mrs. Gerry's products should not be eaten even if they look and smell good.
The recalled salads include potato salad, pasta salad, tuna salad, ham salad, seafood salad, and macaroni salad. For a detailed list of the recalled Mrs. Gerry’s salads, please see the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) post of the Mrs. Gerry’s salad recall press release.
These products have been sold under the following brands: Mrs. Gerry's, SYSCO, Knowlan's (Festival), Spoon River, and Fareway. They were sold in the states of Utah, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan.
