April 5, 2008, Minnesota Tour (Charter) Bus Accident

Early Saturday morning, a tour bus carrying Pelican Rapids High School band students crashed, killing Jessica Weishair, a sophomore at Pelican Rapids High School, and injuring several others, who were transported to area hospitals. Allstate Insurance Company

Pritzker | Ruohonen recently won an appeal on behalf of a client injured in a motorcycle accident.  Rich Ruohonen, lead attorney for the case (Damian Salib, Respondent, vs. Allstate Insurance Company, Appellant) argued that the district court was correct in ruling that Allstate was not entitled to a reduction of the damages award for the amount of workers’-compensation benefits that Mr. Salib received.   The Minnesota Court of Appeals agreed with Mr. Ruohonen and affirmed the district court award of $50,000 to Mr. Salib. Ruling Broadens Interpretation of the Exception to the "Seat Belt Gag Rule"

The Minnesota Supreme Court has broadened the interpretation of the exception to the "seat belt gag rule" to include incidents that involve a parent’s “negligent installation and maintenance” of their child’s car seat.  In the case before the court, a child sued his parents after the child was injured in a car accident in which his mother was driving.  His father had negligently secured him in the car seat.  Because the exception to the "seat belt gag rule" applied, the child was able to obtain compensation for the resulting injuries from his parents' auto insurance company.  Read more about a child car seat lawsuit.
