LifeCell Graft: Lawyer for HIV, Hepatitis B or C, and Syphilis

LifeCell Corporation processes human tissue to create its skin graft material, AlloDerm. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), LifeCell Corporation purchased tissue it used to process AlloDerm from Biomedical Tissue Services (BTS) of Fort Lee, New Jersey. BTS and 4 of its officers and employees have been charged with illegally harvesting human tissue, including skin.

The untested LifeCell graft tissue may have been used by a surgeon, other medical doctor, or dentist for a number of different surgical procedures, including the following:

  • Abdominal wall repair – hernia graft and repair procedures, infected mesh removal, traumatic fascia loss, and stoma procedures
  • Breast reconstructive surgery
  • Head and neck plastic reconstructive surgery
  • Skin grafts after a burn
  • Any surgery requiring a tissue or skin graft
