Personal Injury and Wrongful Death

Fred Pritzker Named President of
Angelman Syndrome Foundation

Angelman Syndrome (AS) is a relatively rare genetic disorder that affects the nervous system. Characteristic features of this condition include developmental delay or mental retardation, severe speech impairment, seizures, small head size (microcephaly) and problems with movement and balance (ataxia). Delayed development can be noted by 6 months to 12 months of age, and other common signs and symptoms usually become apparent in early childhood. People with Angelman syndrome typically have a happy, excitable demeanor with frequent smiling and laughter, a short attention span and hand-flapping movements. Some affected individuals also have unusually fair skin and light-colored hair.

It is a condition well known to firm founding partner, Fred Pritzker. His 23 year-old son, Jacob, has AS. Jake lives at home, works two jobs (with the assistance of an aide) and is active in the Highland Friendship Club, a local organization that promotes social and recreational activities for young adults with disabilities. Jake attended public schools in fully inclusive programs from pre-school to graduation.

Fred Pritzker is the National President of the Angelman Syndrome Foundation (ASF), a national organization that educates parents and the public about AS. It also funds millions in scientific, medical and behavioral research about this condition.

The firm generously contributes to this wonderful organization and encourages visitors to this site to learn more about AS and the ASF. For more information, visit the ASF at http://www.angelman.org/angel/
