Subway Salmonella Food Poisoning Outbreak in Illinois

Our law firm is representing victims of a Salmonella food poisoning outbreak in Illinois that has been associated with eating at Subway restaurants in 28 counties, including Bureau, Cass, Champaign, Christian, Coles, Dekalb, DeWitt, Fulton, Henry, Knox, LaSalle, Livingston, Macon, Marshall, McLean, Moultrie, Ogle, Peoria, Sangamon, Schuyler, Shelby, Tazewell, Vermilion, Warren, Will and Winnebago. Illnesses started between May 14 and May 25, 2010, and cases ranged in age from 2 - 79.

The specific type of Salmonella involved in this outbreak is a rare serotype called Hvittingfoss. Typically, only one to two cases of this type of Salmonella are seen in Illinois per year.

One of our clients, a 52-year-old resident of Tazewell County, ate an oven-roasted chicken sub on May 11 at the Subway on 603 Jackson Street in Morton, Illinois. She was hospitalized for several days after suffering gastroenteritis and cramping with severe vomiting.

Subway Shigella Food Poisoning Outbreak

Our law firm is representing victims of the Subway Shigella food poisoning outbreak associated with eating at the Subway restaurant in Lombard, Illinois, located at 1009 East Roosevelt Road. Shigella illnesses (shigellosis) occurred in February 2010.

Our Subway Shigella lawsuit alleges that Subway food handlers with shigellosis contaminated food with Shigella. Our experience as Shigella lawyers is that most shigellosis outbreaks associated with restaurants are caused by an infected food handler.  If a food handler infected with Shigella does not wash his or her hands adequately, contaminated human waste can get on food served to patrons, which will then make the patrons who consume the food sick.
