E. coli Recall: Ground Beef Sold in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri
On May 5, 2006, the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced a recall of about 156, 235 pounds of ground beef products that were sold to restaurants and institutions in Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri. The FSIS issued the recall due to the detection of E. coli bacteria in a sample of the beef.
The ground beef products, which may have been made into hamburgers, were produced between February 6 and May 3, 2006. E. coli poisoning generally manifests itself 7 days after contaminated food is consumed. If you ate ground beef, including a hamburger, in Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, or Missouri and you were later diagnosed with E. coli poisoning, you may have been sickened by the recalled ground beef products. Genetic testing may be able to determine whether there is a connection between your E. coli diagnosis and the recalled ground beef.
