June 2005 CPSC Recalls

June 3, 2005 - CPSC, HSN LP Announce Recall of Welbilt Electronic Pressure Cookers.  Approximately 3,500 are affected by this recall.  The lid on these pressure cookers can open prematurely while contents are under pressure, allowing hot contents to be expelled and causing a scald or burn injury to individuals in the immediate area.  HSN has received 20 reports that the lids opened prematurely while contents were under pressure, resulting in 16 reports of burn injuries, including at least one third degree burn.

June 14, 2005 - CPSC, Razor USA Announce Recall of Electric Scooters.  Approximately 246,000 are affected by this recall.  A weld can break, causing the handlebar to detach from the scooter. This can cause the rider to lose control and fall from the scooter.  Razor USA has received 261 reports of handlebar welds breaking or bending. This has resulted in reports of 16 injuries, including three broken arms and one laceration. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

June 16, 2005 - CPSC, Kids II Inc. Announce Recall of Doorway Baby Jumpers.  Approximately 29,300 are affected by this recall.  The plastic clamp that attaches the jumper seat to a door frame can break, which can cause the unit to fall to the floor. This poses an injury hazard to young children.  Kids II has received 49 reports of the clamp breaking with 12 reported injuries, including a possible mild concussion, skinned knee, cut lips, and bumps and bruises.

June 21, 2005 - CPSC, Tahsin Industrial Corp. Announce Recall of Treestands.  Approximately 480 units are affected by this recall.  The treestand’s bracket can bend if not secured properly by a chain and if weight is applied. This can cause the chain to disengage from the stand, the stand to separate from the tree and the user to fall and suffer serious injuries.

June 24, 2005 - CPSC, Polaris Industries Announce Expanded Recall of Select Model Year 2004.5 and 2005 ATVs.  Approximately 61,020 are affected by this recall.  This expansion of the Polaris ATV recall announced on May 3, 2005 includes several additional models, affecting about 45,000 additional units.  ATVs were assembled with possibly defective Electronic Control Modules (ECM) which may fail and overheat. If this were to occur, excessive heat could cause a fire, possibly resulting in serious injury or death.
