August 2005 FDA Recalls

Pritzker | Ruohonen & Associates, P.A. is dedicated to informing the public about issues that affect people’s health. Every month the FDA issues recalls of dangerous and defective products. This month we also included an FDA safety alert of a product that has been linked to several serious injuries and deaths, the Prisma® continuous renal replacement system. The list below includes recalls of HOSTESS® oatmeal cookies, Lappert’s ice cream, Esh cream cheese, Allison’s Gourmet BBQ beans, and other food products. Our Senior Partner, Attorney Fred Pritzker, has had 29 years of experience helping people who have been injured by defective medical products and food poisoning. He has been recognized by his peers as a Super Lawyer, and selected for inclusion in the 2005-2006 edition of The Best Lawyers in America.

Potential Listeria Contamination Causes Recall of Allison’s Gourmet BBQ Beans

Recall of Fancy Whole Basil Due to Potential Salmonella Contamination
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is advising processors and repackers that Majestic International Spice Corporation of Montebello, CA, is voluntarily recalling its dried “Extra Fancy Basil” spice in 12.5 kilogram bags because FDA found the product contaminated with Salmonella Blockley.  Salmonella is a well-known cause of both outbreaks and sporadic disease in various parts of the world and as such poses a potential health threat. FDA is issuing this advisory because we are concerned that the firm has not adequately alerted its consignees to the problem. Salmonella is a microorganism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the microorganism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis.
