California E. coli Outbreak Associated with Beef Tri-Tip
A California E. coli Outbreak in Forest Ranch has been associated with beef tri-tip served at a BBQ Benefit for the Forest Ranch Volunteer Fire Department.
Health officials have not reported names of the processor, distributors or retailer of the contaminated tri-tip associated with this E. coli outbreak in Forest Ranch, California. These parties are all potentially liable to the victims of this outbreak for medical expenses, pain and suffering, loss of income and other damages. We are representing several victims of E. coli outbreaks linked to beef products. Contact us for E. coli lawsuit information.
According to the Butte County Public Health Department, at least 18 people were sickened, 4 of them seriously.
Two people are still hospitalized, one of them a six-year-old child. As happens to many children who contract E. coli infections, the child has developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a severe illness that can cause kidney failure, pancreatitis, brain damage and damage to other organs. As attorneys who represent people with HUS and families of people with HUS who have died, we have witnessed the pain and suffering and emotional distressed caused by this illness. Attorney Fred Pritzker recently spent two days in an intensive care unit with a family whose loved one was in a HUS-associated coma.
If your family is involved in the California E. coli outbreak, contact our law firm for information: call 1-888-377-8900 (toll-free) or email attorney Fred Pritzker.
What is the connection between E. coli and hemolytic uremic syndrome?
Hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) is the leading cause of acute kidney failure in children and typically results as a complication of an E. coli infection. In this case, the type of E. coli is 0111.
HUS generally occurs around the eighth day after an E. coli infection and presents as diarrhea, usually bloody diarrhea. The mortality rate for HUS, which primarily affects children under 10, is between 3-7%. Among the elderly, HUS has a dire prognosis, with mortality rates up to 50%.
Because HUS can cause life-long illness and patients may need future surgeries and other medical care, compensation for HUS patients needs to include amounts for future medical expenses and future pain and suffering. Contact attorney Fred Pritzker for more information.
