Norovirus Treatment
- Diagnosis based on symptoms
- Treating Norovirus with fluids and rest
Officially diagnosing a Norovirus infection requires a complicated series of medical tests. Most often, physicians diagnose a case of viral gastroenteritis based on Norwalk virus symptoms.
There is no specific treatment for Norovirus. The most important way to recover from a Norovirus infection, or maintain proper health while infected, is to maintain hydration. Drinking lots of beverages and eating water-rich foods, like soup, is usually sufficient.
In severe cases of viral gastroenteritis, infected individuals need to stay in the hospital with an intravenous (IV) supply of water and nutrients. If you or your family member seems to be expelling more fluids--through diarrhea or vomiting--than are you are taking into your body, you may want to contact your family physician.
If you or someone you love has been hospitalized after a Norovirus infection or infection from any other foodborne illness, contact us for a free consultation regarding your legal rights and remedies.
